Northern Ontario, March 24, 2026 – Ambra Solutions, a Canadian leader in the design and deployment of private 4G/5G networks and solutions for mission-critical industries, is proud to announce a major digital transformation project with IAMGOLD Corporation at the Côté Gold mine, located between Timmins and Sudbury. Leveraging its deep expertise in private wireless networks for mining, Ambra modernized all mine communications, enabling autonomous and remote operations through a cutting-edge private 4G/5G network built using Nokia Modular Private Wireless (MPW).
Minimal infrastructure, maximum coverage
IAMGOLD sought a connectivity solution with minimal infrastructure requirements that could support current automation needs while accommodating future expansion. Hence, Ambra designed a private 4G/5G architecture providing pervasive coverage across the mine - above and below ground - replacing legacy Wi-Fi systems that had become limited in reliability and mobility.
This transformation enabled Côté Gold to:
- Automate its vehicle fleet
- Operate equipment remotely with greater accuracy
- Optimize operational decision-making in real time
- Enhance worker safety through stable, reliable connectivity
A partnership focused on innovation
With Nokia supplying the private wireless and Ambra leading the engineering, network design, and end-to-end deployment, the network supports autonomous haul trucks and drills, real-time communications, and a wide range of operational use cases without reliance on public connectivity. The commissioned network was engineered to scale as the mine grows over the coming years.
“This project represents a decisive step for the future of mining operations. With this private 4G/5G connectivity, we are giving Côté Gold the technological foundations for a mine of the future: automated, secure, and capable of evolving at the pace of its ambition,” said Éric L'Heureux, Founder and CEO of Ambra Solutions. “Our mission is to contribute to a safer and smarter mining industry through reliable and optimal private LTE/5G connectivity solutions, and the Côté Gold project reflects this vision.”
Matthew Young, Head of Mission Critical Enterprise, North America at Nokia, added: “The mining industry faces complex challenges such as keeping employees healthy and safe along the entire supply chain. Our new telecommunications infrastructure provides IAMGOLD with comprehensive, automated connectivity to deliver on the company’s digital transformation goals and maximize efficiency through autonomous operations.”
By combining IAMGOLD’s forward-thinking operational strategy, Ambra’s mining-focused engineering capabilities, and Nokia’s proven private wireless technology, the Côté Gold project marks an important milestone for the Canadian mining sector, positioning the site as a benchmark for safer, smarter, and more sustainable mining operations in the years ahead.
